Downshire Cottage is a charming red bricked terrace house located in the heart of Holywood town centre. It was originally built as a labour’s cottage for people working at Belfast Docks, however it has been extended, modernised and equipped to accommodate today’s tourist/visitors, whist retaining its original features and sense of charm in a cosy cottage atmosphere. One of the Cottage’s main advantages is its fantastic location, just off Holywood High Street. It takes only 1-2 minutes to walk into the town centre.

This house combines traditional and modern styles to create a cosy home from home, despite being quite large. Well behaved pets are welcome. Guests are asked to keep pets off soft furnishings. Pricing from £100 per night with 2 night minimum stay / £550 per week.

The house has its own separate large living room with a combination of leather and fabric seating to create a comfortable, relaxing quiet space, or a room where the whole family can congregate to watch TV.

Fully equipped kitchen with fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer. The cooker is a range with electric oven and gas hob.

One twin bedroom (2 single beds) and a double bedroom on the first floor.

Some have walk in showers, whilst others have showers over the bath.

Living Room / Dining Area

Comfortable living room with 3 seater and 2 seater couches. TV, WIFI, traditional real flame gas fire. Dining area with table, console table, bookcase with books for guests, and under stair storage. Local art adorns the walls and guests are sure to recognise some of the local scenes featured on our walls during their stay!

Loft Room

Single bed loft room accessed by fixed stair ladder. Used at guest’s own risk and not recommended for young children under any circumstances. Access to this room has a safety gate. This room can be safely used by adults and is loved by sensible, responsible teenagers, at their own risk – but please note the caution sign displayed in the house and look at our photographs of the fixed ladder and entrance to the room, if you plan to use it during your stay.

Large Groups

All our houses are in close proximity to each other; however it may be handy to know that for groups of family / friends staying together, Downshire Cottage is right next door to Willow Cottage!


Downshire Cottage provides comfortable, affordable accommodation in quiet residential street in the heart of Holywood. Twin and double room on first floor and single loft room available for older teenagers or adults. There is no designated parking space, however guests can park their cars on the residential street and it is also a great option for those travelling on foot as it has doorstep convenience to the vibrant town centre of Holywood. This attractive, bustling town boasts numerous boutiques, art galleries, gift shops, plenty of hairdressers and beauty salons for pampering and special occasions, and a fabulous selection of award-winning bars and restaurants, all within a 2 minute walk from Downshire Cottage.

As well as the close proximity to the amenities the town centre has to offer, the cottage is a 5-10 minute stroll from the scenic coastal path and playpark at Seapark, and guests are ideally placed to explore the rest of North Down, Belfast and beyond, as access to transport, both bus and rail, is a 2 minute walk from the cottage. A superb option for those enjoying an action-packed break with plenty of activities nearby such as golf, horse-riding, sailing, paddle-boarding, yoga, swimming, Pilates, walking and sightseeing.


Holywood town centre is full of award-winning restaurants, cafes, stylish boutique and gift shops and other tourist attractions. There are children’s playparks – Jonny the Jig in the town centre, swings and slides in the pretty woodland of Ballymenoch Park, great views over Holywood, & Belfast Lough from Redburn Country Park, and a large playpark by the sea at Seapark. The cottage is ideal for commuting to Belfast, North Down or as a base from which to explore the rest of the province due to transport links – road, rail, sea and air.


The cottage is located close to some of Northern Ireland’s most famous tourist attractions, such as Titanic Quarter, The Game of Thrones Tour, W5 Interactive Discovery Centre, The Crumlin Road Gaol, The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, the SSE Arena, and many more. For those who want to travel further afield, why not visit the famous Giants Causeway, or take a tour of the Bushmills Distillery. Guests can also join the Belfast hop on/hop off bus tour and explore Belfast including Queens University, Stormont, and the murals decorating the Peace Wall. The Cottage

The Downshire Cottage provides luxury self-catering accommodation for up to 5 people (however please note one bed is in a loft room – more details provided). The cottage is a short stroll to the scenic coastal path, where guests can walk from Holywood to Bangor, Groomsport, Donaghadee and beyond, or in the opposite direction towards Belfast. In the cottage there is a double room, a twin room and a single loft room, shared bathroom, living / dining room, well equipped kitchen and outdoor sunny BBQ area.
